Join us online on Saturday, February 7, 2026, for our Family Empowerment Series training "Transitions: Elementary School to Middle School."

In this session, we will gain a deeper understanding of how special education supports change or stay the same as students begin their middle school years. More importantly, you will learn practical strategies to help your students adapt to their new environments and navigate the changes that come with it! While this transition is specific to elementary and middle school parents and caregivers, we recommend this session to families with students of all ages!

We will cover important topics such as

  • What to expect (what will be different from elementary to middle school),
  • How to prepare,
  • Frequently asked questions and advice, and
  • Additional supports and services to guide you and your student throughout your transition.

Want to study up early? Check out our office's YouTube page featuring a series of six dynamic videos on Special Education in DC! All videos are available in English and Spanish with open captioning. Visit our page on YouTube: youtube.com/@DCSpecialEducationHub/playlists for all 12 videos!

Attending our Family Empowerment Series is a great opportunity for caregivers to receive information and ask questions about how best to support their students with disabilities. Don't let this fantastic opportunity pass you by! We can't wait to see you there!
